Curtis Cook possesses over 20 years of strategic planning and management experience in the private sector, different levels of government and non-profit organizations.  He has worked extensively with businesses, organizations and communities to improve their competitiveness and embrace innovative approaches to sustainable economic development.

Curtis has delivered over 40 competitive intelligence, business development, investment attraction, industry profiling and market entry projects for both government and private-sector clients.  His clients include the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Industry Canada, Team Canada Inc., Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, U.S. Department of Commerce, Italian Trade Commission, Ontario Ministry of Economic Development, Nortel Networks and businesses in natural resource, environmental, technology, and manufacturing.

Curtis has extensive consulting and management-level community economic development experience with municipalities and First Nations communities in Alberta and British Columbia. He has also consulted with provincial and regional economic development agencies in Ontario and Atlantic Canada.  Curtis served as Executive Director of the Olds Institute for Community and Regional Development, and established economic development functions and created multi-year economic development strategies for Cochrane, Alberta and the District of Lillooet, British Columbia. He was the Chairperson of the Economic Development Framework and Governance Committee for the Calgary Regional Partnership, which comprises over 15 municipalities, including the City of Calgary.

In addition to his work with EcoTactix, Curtis worked with Canada’s largest independent business and economic research organization, The Conference Board of Canada.  He specialized in public policy solutions to enhance Canada’s innovation and technology capabilities, with a particular emphasis on Canada’s capacity to compete globally in various clean technology industries. His research and analysis work was published in the Conference Board’s Canada’s Pathways Toward Global Innovation Success, the report of the Leaders’ Panel on Innovation-based Commerce.

Curtis also analyzed investment business cases for Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC) from 2002 to 2007.  Curtis advised SDTC’s Investment Board on the competitiveness and capabilities of companies and consortia developing clean technologies, products or services.

Curtis authored two books: Patents, Profits and Power: How Intellectual Property Rules the Global Economy and Competitive Intelligence: Create an Intelligent Organization and Compete to Win. He holds a degree in Political Science, a Certified International Trade Professional designation, and a Certificate in Competitive Intelligence from York University.
